A wide, sandy beach just north of Kapalua Bay on West Maui
Named after David Thomas Fleming, a Scottish-born plantation manager who helped develop West Maui, this beach was once voted Americaʻs Best Beach. The full official name is D.T. Fleming Beach Park. Most locals simply call it Fleming Beach or Flemings.
Fleming Beach generally has good water quality. The West Maui coastline is relatively dry and there are no major streams emptying directly onto this beach. After heavy rain, runoff from the hillside can temporarily affect conditions. The beach is not regularly tested by DOH.
Fleming Beach is known for a powerful shore break, particularly in winter months. Waves break directly on the steep sand and have caused spinal injuries. A lifeguard is stationed here. Despite the hazard, the beach offers good swimming conditions on calm days.
