Which One Is Best?
Lagoon 2 (Honu) is often considered the best balance of amenities and crowd level. Lagoon 1 (Kohola) near the Four Seasons is the most resort-like. Lagoon 3 near the Marriott is popular with families. Lagoon 4 is the least developed and least crowded.
The lagoons are similar in design but differ in amenities and crowds. All four are man-made crescent-shaped lagoons with calm, protected water. Water quality is similar across all four, generally rated Low risk.
There are public parking areas at each lagoon, but spaces are limited and fill early on weekends and holidays. Arrive before 9am for the best chance at parking, especially at Lagoons 1 and 2.
The Hawaii Department of Health recommends staying out of the ocean for at least 72 hours after heavy rain, even if the water looks clear. Bacteria and pollutants from runoff can linger in the water longer than the brown color does.
