Low Risk1 / 5

ʻAnaehoʻomalu Bay fronts the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort and sits in one of Hawaii's driest regions — the leeward Kohala Coast receives less than 10 inches of rain per year. This near-desert climate means virtually no freshwater runoff into the bay, keeping water quality pristine year-round.

The bay is partially protected by a lava point on the north end, creating calm, clear conditions perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Ancient Hawaiian fishponds border the south end of the beach — a beautiful historical feature unique to this location. The resort beach offers consistent, excellent conditions for guests and the public alike.

Based on: Extremely dry Kohala Coast climate, no freshwater runoff, protected bay, open-ocean circulation

⚠️ The 72-Hour Rain Rule

Stay out for at least 72 hours after heavy rain. The Kohala Coast is one of Hawaii's driest areas — heavy rain events are extremely rare, making this one of the most reliably clean bays in the state.
