Hyatt Regency Maui, Kaʻanapali — ranked by water quality and bacteria risk
The Hyatt Regency Maui sits at the southern end of the Kaʻānapali resort strip, directly on the three-mile stretch of golden sand that makes Kaʻānapali one of the most famous beach destinations in the world. The resort's location at the south end means it is closest to the quieter section of the beach, away from the crowds that tend to gather near Black Rock and Whaler's Village to the north.
Kaʻānapali Beach benefits from its position on Maui's dry, sunny west coast, where trade winds are blocked by the West Maui Mountains. The water is typically calm, warm, and clear, with a gentle sandy bottom that slopes gradually offshore. The beachfront walkway connecting all the Kaʻānapali resorts makes it easy to stroll to different sections of the beach without ever leaving the sand.
The Kaʻānapali resort strip is compact and walkable — the entire three-mile beach can be covered on foot via the beachfront path. Black Rock is about a 15-minute walk north from the Hyatt. For Napili Bay and Kapalua Bay, drive north on Lower Honoapiilani Road, about 10 to 15 minutes. The resort also offers a free shuttle that runs between Kaʻānapali hotels and the Whaler's Village shopping area.
Best snorkeling: Black Rock at Kaʻānapali (reef fish, turtles, cliff diving). Best for families: Napili Bay (shallow, calm, turtles). Best for tranquility: Kapalua Bay (sheltered, less crowded). Most convenient: Kaʻānapali Beach at the Hyatt (on property, wide sand).
