Beaches Near Ritz-Carlton Kapalua

Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Maui — ranked by water quality and bacteria risk

Drive times and water quality risk levels for beaches near Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Maui. Risk ratings are based on long-term DOH bacteria testing data and geography. Always check current Maui advisories before swimming — conditions change after rain.

About the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua Area

The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua sits at the northwestern tip of Maui's resort coast, perched on a hillside above some of the island's finest beaches. The Kapalua area is quieter and more upscale than the Kaʻanapali hotel strip to the south, with world-class golf courses, hiking trails through Cook pine forests, and a handful of restaurants. This corner of west Maui is among the driest on the island, receiving significantly less rainfall than the windward side, which means ocean conditions are generally clear and swimmable year-round. Three excellent beaches — Kapalua Bay, D.T. Fleming, and the hidden Oneloa Bay — are all within a 5-minute drive of the resort.

Nearby Beaches — Ranked by Proximity
Kapalua Bay Low ●
Kapalua Bay is a crescent-shaped cove protected by lava rock points on either side, creating calm, clear water ideal for snorkeling among coral and tropical fish. The bay has been named America's best beach multiple times and lives up to the reputation. No streams drain into the bay, which keeps bacteria levels consistently low throughout the year.
5 min walk
South
D.T. Fleming Beach Park is a wide, golden-sand beach with lifeguards, restrooms, and a large grassy lawn shaded by ironwood trees. The beach faces northwest and can receive larger swells than Kapalua Bay, creating conditions suited to experienced bodysurfers and bodyboarders. In calm conditions, the southern end near the rocks provides decent snorkeling.
5 min
North
Oneloa Bay Low ●
Oneloa Bay (Ironwoods Beach) is a long, secluded stretch of sand tucked between rocky points and reached via a trail through the Kapalua resort grounds. The beach sees far fewer visitors than Kapalua Bay or Fleming, offering genuine solitude. Strong currents and shore break can make swimming challenging here, so it is best for walking and scenery on rougher days.
10 min walk
North
Napili Bay Low ●
Napili Bay is a small crescent cove flanked by low-rise condos where Hawaiian green sea turtles regularly swim through the shallows. The bay is calm enough for snorkeling and swimming in most conditions, with a gentle sandy bottom. No stream outlets affect this stretch of coast, so water quality stays reliably clean.
10 min
South
Kaʻanapali Beach Moderate ●
Kaʻanapali Beach is a three-mile resort strip with Black Rock (Puʻu Kekaʻa) at the north end providing Maui's most accessible cliff-jumping and snorkeling spot. The beach walk connects all the resort hotels, and sunset cliff-diving demonstrations at Black Rock are a nightly tradition. Moderate bacteria risk reflects periodic drainage from the Kaʻanapali area.

  • Wait 72 hours after rain stops before entering the water
  • Avoid brown or murky water regardless of whether an advisory is posted
  • Best rain-resistant option: Kapalua Bay (South) — generally clearer after rain due to geography
