About Sheraton Maui Resort
The Sheraton Maui sits at the far north end of Kaʻanapali Beach, built directly on the volcanic promontory of Black Rock (Puʻu Kekaʻa). The hotel's signature evening cliff-diving ceremony at sunset draws crowds along the beach walk nightly. Black Rock is one of West Maui's best snorkeling sites, with sea turtles, reef fish, and excellent visibility around the underwater lava formations. Being at the north end of the Kaʻanapali strip puts guests closer to Napili and Kapalua, where some of Maui's best-quality swimming beaches are found.

Calm crescent bay, turtles
Tucked between two lava peninsulas, Kapalua Bay is one of the most sheltered swimming spots on Maui and consistently ranks among the best beaches in the country. The protected cove stays calm even when other West Maui beaches see chop from the trade winds. Public parking is extremely limited — arrive early or walk from the coastal trail.
A narrow stretch of calm, shallow water between the Kaʻanapali seawall and the harbor, Baby Beach Lahaina is popular with families who want very gentle conditions for small children. The bottom is sandy and the water rarely gets above waist-deep near shore. It is not a glamorous beach, but for toddlers and nervous swimmers, the lack of waves is a real benefit.
D.T. Fleming is a wide sandy beach with year-round lifeguards and plenty of room to spread out. It was named America's Best Beach in 2006 and the north end backed by ironwood trees provides natural shade. Shore break can be strong on the south end, especially during winter months — swim near the lifeguard tower for calmer conditions.
Getting Around
The Sheraton sits at the north end of Kaʻanapali Beach on Nohea Kai Drive. Napili and Kapalua are just a few minutes north along Lower Honoapiilani Road, while Lahaina town is about 10 minutes south.
- Beach walk: The Kaʻanapali Beach Walk runs the full length of the resort strip — you can walk to Black Rock, the Whaler's Village shops, and other hotels without a car
- To Kapalua: A 15-20 minute drive north brings you to Napili Bay and Kapalua Bay, both with calmer, cleaner water
- Parking: Kapalua Bay's tiny lot fills early — the free D.T. Fleming lot is a better bet if driving north
- Tip: Snorkel Black Rock early in the morning (before 9 AM) when the water is clearest and the crowds are thinnest
