About Turtle Bay Resort

Turtle Bay Resort anchors the northeastern tip of Oʻahu's North Shore, sitting on 840 acres of coastal land that includes five miles of shoreline with multiple beach coves, a pair of golf courses, and horseback riding trails. The resort occupies one of the most dramatic coastal positions on Oʻahu, where the North Shore meets the windward coast.

The beaches at Turtle Bay experience the same dramatic seasonal shift as the rest of the North Shore — massive winter surf from November through February gives way to calm, clear conditions from May through September. The resort's position at the tip of Kahuku Point means some of its coves face different directions, providing options even when one side has surf. The rural setting and distance from Waikiki (about an hour's drive) keep the beaches far less crowded than the south shore.

Nearby Beaches — Ranked by Proximity
Turtle Bay's coastline includes several distinct coves, from the protected Kuilima Cove on the resort's south side to the more exposed beaches along the north shore. Kuilima Cove is the calmest option, with a protective reef that keeps conditions manageable even when surf is up elsewhere on the North Shore. The variety of exposures means there is usually a swimmable option somewhere on the property
On property
At the resort
Sunset Beach Low ●
Sunset Beach, about 15 minutes west of the resort, where winter swells create some of the most powerful surf on Earth, regularly reaching 15 to 25 feet. The Triple Crown of Surfing draws the world's best competitors here. In summer, the same beach flattens into a calm, crystal-clear swimming spot with a wide sandy bottom that stretches far offshore
10 min
West
Pipeline (Ehukai Beach Park), the most famous wave in surfing, where shallow reef creates perfect barreling tubes that have defined the sport for decades. In winter, this is a spectator sport for everyone except elite professionals. Summer transforms it into a gentle, clear swimming area where you can wade over the same reef that creates those massive winter barrels
15 min
West
Shark's Cove Low ●
Shark's Cove, a series of lava rock tide pools and coves on the North Shore that become premier snorkeling sites from May through September. The rocky formations shelter a remarkable variety of reef fish, sea urchins, and octopus. In winter, heavy surf makes the area hazardous and entry is strongly discouraged
20 min
West
Kahuku Point Beach Low ●
A stretch of windward coast near Kahuku where the beach faces the open ocean and steady trade winds keep conditions choppy but uncrowded. The landscape here is rural and undeveloped, with views of the Koʻolau mountains and a long stretch of sand that sees very few visitors. Swimming requires caution due to currents and wind chop, but the solitude is rewarding
