October Conditions at Hanauma Bay
October Advisory Risk Low

Dry weather means clear water and minimal runoff entering the bay. Snorkeling conditions and water quality are at their best.

🌧️ Rainfall & Runoff

October marks the transition to wetter conditions. Hanauma Bay starts seeing more rain (2-3 inches). Post-rain runoff from the hillside can reduce visibility and elevate bacteria in the enclosed bay.

🌊 Ocean Conditions

Winter brings slightly more wave action to the bay, though it remains more sheltered than open-coast beaches. Water temperature is around 75-77°F. Rain can reduce snorkeling visibility.

👥 Crowd Levels

Moderate to low. Fall shoulder season offers fewer tourists while conditions remain good. This is one of the best value periods for visiting Hawaii.

📌 October Notes
Hanauma Bay requires advance reservations and charges an entry fee. The bay is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays for reef recovery. Arrive early for the best snorkeling conditions.
If It Looks Brown, Don't Swim
Never enter the ocean when the water appears brown or murky, even if no advisory is posted. Hawaii is often slow to test beaches and update advisories — not every beach is monitored. After heavy rain, wait at least 72 hours and until the water clears before swimming.

⚠️ The 72-Hour Rain Rule

The Hawaii Department of Health recommends staying out of the ocean for at least 72 hours after heavy rain. In october, this is especially important as wet-season storms can produce heavy rainfall and significant runoff.
