October Conditions at Ko Olina Lagoons
October Advisory Risk Low to Moderate

Ko Olina's leeward location keeps it dry, but the semi-enclosed lagoons have limited water exchange. Rare heavy rain can temporarily affect lagoon water quality.

🌧️ Rainfall & Runoff

October brings a slight increase in rainfall to the leeward coast (about 1 inch). Ko Olina is still significantly drier than windward or north-shore beaches. Water quality remains good.

🌊 Ocean Conditions

The man-made lagoons at Ko Olina provide consistently calm, protected swimming regardless of open-ocean conditions. The lagoons are sheltered from trade winds and surf. Water is warm year-round (75-80°F).

👥 Crowd Levels

Moderate to low. Fall shoulder season offers fewer tourists while conditions remain good. This is one of the best value periods for visiting Hawaii.

📌 October Notes
•Ko Olina's four man-made lagoons were engineered with rock breakwaters. Water circulation in the lagoons is slower than open beaches, which means any contamination from rain runoff can linger longer.

If It Looks Brown, Don't Swim
Never enter the ocean when the water appears brown or murky, even if no advisory is posted. Hawaii is often slow to test beaches and update advisories — not every beach is monitored. After heavy rain, wait at least 72 hours and until the water clears before swimming.

⚠️ The 72-Hour Rain Rule

The Hawaii Department of Health recommends staying out of the ocean for at least 72 hours after heavy rain. In october, this is especially important as wet-season storms can produce heavy rainfall and significant runoff.
