October Conditions at Lanikai Beach
October Advisory Risk Moderate

The windward coast gets more rain than other parts of Oahu. Lanikai Beach water quality is variable depending on recent rainfall.

🌧️ Rainfall & Runoff

October marks the return of windward rain with 3-4 inches. Water quality can dip after significant rain events, though Lanikai recovers faster than Kailua due to less direct stream discharge.

🌊 Ocean Conditions

Winter trade wind swells can bring moderate surf to the windward coast. Water temperature is around 75-77°F. Conditions vary with trade wind strength. The beach is more exposed to easterly swells.

👥 Crowd Levels

Moderate to low. Fall shoulder season offers fewer tourists while conditions remain good. This is one of the best value periods for visiting Hawaii.

If It Looks Brown, Don't Swim
Never enter the ocean when the water appears brown or murky, even if no advisory is posted. Hawaii is often slow to test beaches and update advisories — not every beach is monitored. After heavy rain, wait at least 72 hours and until the water clears before swimming.

⚠️ The 72-Hour Rain Rule

The Hawaii Department of Health recommends staying out of the ocean for at least 72 hours after heavy rain. In october, this is especially important as wet-season storms can produce heavy rainfall and significant runoff.
