October Conditions at Poipu Beach
October Advisory Risk Low

Poipu's south-shore location provides excellent water quality with minimal advisory history during drier months.

🌧️ Rainfall & Runoff

October is transitional but Poipu stays drier than most of Kauai. The south shore sees only modest rainfall increases. Water quality remains good. North-shore surf begins building.

🌊 Ocean Conditions

Poipu's protected beach park provides calm conditions for most of the year. The natural rock formations create sheltered wading areas perfect for families. Water temperature is 75-80°F. Monk seals often rest on the sand.

👥 Crowd Levels

Moderate to low. Fall shoulder season offers fewer tourists while conditions remain good. This is one of the best value periods for visiting Hawaii.

If It Looks Brown, Don't Swim
Never enter the ocean when the water appears brown or murky, even if no advisory is posted. Hawaii is often slow to test beaches and update advisories — not every beach is monitored. After heavy rain, wait at least 72 hours and until the water clears before swimming.

⚠️ The 72-Hour Rain Rule

The Hawaii Department of Health recommends staying out of the ocean for at least 72 hours after heavy rain. In october, this is especially important as wet-season storms can produce heavy rainfall and significant runoff.
