Ukumehame Beach sits in one of West Maui's quietest stretches of coastline, where the Pali Highway clings to the cliffs above and the beach sits below. The area is largely undeveloped, with the ocean-facing leeward position providing consistent dry weather and excellent water quality on most days.

The rocky reef sections along the beach edges offer good snorkeling with coral and tropical fish. Hawaiian green sea turtles (hōnu) are frequently spotted here foraging on the reef. The beach is popular with local kitesurfers and windsurfers due to consistent afternoon trade winds that funnel through the Maui Isthmus.

Based on: Undeveloped leeward coast, minimal watershed, good ocean circulation

⚠️ The 72-Hour Rain Rule

Stay out for at least 72 hours after heavy rain. West Maui is generally dry but the Ukumehame Valley stream outlet can briefly affect water quality after significant rainfall.
