Water quality at North Kaʻanapali Beach

📍 North Kaʻanapali, West Maui

Checking live advisories…
Updated May 29, 2026. This page now removes Oʻahu activity links from a Maui hotel page, adds a clearer North Kaʻanapali decision block, and treats the historical 2/5 rating as planning context rather than a current water test.

Westin Kaʻanapali Water-Quality Decision

North Kaʻanapali is usually a reasonable dry-weather resort-beach check, but West Maui rain can change the decision quickly. Start with live DOH advisories, recent rain, water color, and surf before entering.

If It Looks Brown, Don't Swim
West Maui streams can discharge polluted runoff after heavy rain. Never enter brown or murky water. Wait at least 72 hours after significant rainfall before swimming.

Historical Bacteria Risk
⚠ Historical rating — based on long-term data, not current conditions.
Moderate-Low Risk 2 / 5

The Westin Kaʻanapali Ocean Resort Villas sits on North Kaʻanapali Beach, the northern stretch of Maui's most famous resort coastline. Water quality here is moderate-low risk — generally clean during dry weather, with some vulnerability to West Maui stream runoff after rainfall.

The northern end of Kaʻanapali is slightly farther from the main resort strip and has fewer water-quality monitoring points than the central beach. During dry weather, the water is often clear and conditions can be favorable for ocean activities.

⚠️ The 72-Hour Rain Rule

Stay out for at least 72 hours after heavy rain. West Maui receives more rainfall than South Maui, and streams in the area can temporarily elevate bacteria levels.
