Kahului, Maui — ranked by water quality and bacteria risk

Drive times and water quality risk levels for beaches near Kahului, Maui. Risk ratings are based on long-term DOH bacteria testing data and geography. Always check current Maui advisories before swimming — conditions change after rain.

About Kahului

Kahului is Maui's main commercial hub and home to the island's only commercial airport (OGG). Most visitors pass through on their way to Kaʻanapali, Wailea, or the Road to Hana, but Kahului itself has Costco, Target, Maui Mall, and dozens of restaurants — making it the best place to stock up before heading to your accommodation.

Kahului sits in the central valley between Haleakala and the West Maui Mountains, giving you access to beaches in multiple directions. The closest is Kanaha Beach (5 minutes), but the resort beaches of Kaʻanapali and Wailea are 30-40 minutes in opposite directions.
