KAUAʻI BEACH GUIDE · 2026

Best Beaches on Kauaʻi

Ranked by water quality, bacteria risk, and swimming safety

⚠ Kauai rain note: Kauaʻi receives the highest rainfall of any Hawaiian island. The 72-hour rain rule is especially critical here — bacteria spikes after rain are common on all coasts. Always check current advisories.
Kauaʻi Water Quality Tips
  • South shore (Poipu) is drier and has consistently better water quality than the east or north
  • North shore (Hanalei, Tunnels) is spectacular in summer but dangerous in winter
  • East side (Kapaa, Waipouli) ocean is often rough — stick to resort pools or Lydgate
  • After any rain anywhere on Kauaʻi, wait 72 hours before swimming near river mouths
  • Kauaʻi has brown water advisories more frequently than other islands due to high rainfall
