Hotel Location & Beach Access

Steps from the Beach on Waikiki’s Beach Walk

The Embassy Suites by Hilton Waikiki Beach Walk sits on Beach Walk, a short open-air pedestrian street lined with restaurants, shops, and the Waikiki Beach Walk entertainment complex. This is one of the most convenient hotel locations in Waikiki — you’re in the center of everything.

The beach is not at your doorstep, but it is very close. From the hotel entrance, you walk through the Beach Walk outdoor mall, cross Kalakaua Avenue, and you’re at the Fort DeRussy Beach Park end of Waikiki — one of the less crowded sections of the beach strip. Total walk time is about 3-5 minutes.

Beach access from the hotel:
  • Fort DeRussy Beach Park: ~3-5 min walk (closest)
  • Main Waikiki Beach strip: ~5-10 min walk
  • Kuhio Beach Park: ~10-15 min walk
  • Ala Moana Beach Park: ~15 min walk west
  • Duke Kahanamoku Beach (Hilton): ~10 min walk west

Moderate Risk 2 / 5

Waikiki Beach is one of the most monitored shorelines in the state, tested weekly by the DOH as a Tier 1 beach. In dry, sunny weather, bacteria levels are generally within acceptable limits across most of the beach. The main concern is the Ala Wai Canal, which discharges into the ocean at the west end of Waikiki near the Hilton Hawaiian Village. After heavy rain, pollutants flush through the canal and spread along the nearshore water.

The Fort DeRussy Beach area near the Embassy Suites is somewhat better positioned than the west end of Waikiki, sitting further from the canal outflow. However, during island-wide rain events, the entire Waikiki shoreline can be affected. Surfside runoff from Kalakaua Avenue storm drains also contributes to bacteria spikes after rain.

⚠️ The 72-Hour Rain Rule

The Hawaii DOH recommends staying out of the ocean for at least 72 hours after heavy rain. Bacteria and pollutants linger in the water longer than the brown color does.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where exactly is the Embassy Suites Waikiki Beach Walk?

It is on Beach Walk, a short pedestrian street in the heart of Waikiki, right next to the Waikiki Beach Walk open-air shopping and dining complex. The nearest beach (Fort DeRussy Beach Park) is a 3-5 minute walk through the complex and across Kalakaua Avenue.

Is the Embassy Suites Waikiki directly on the beach?

Not directly on the sand — but very close. You will walk through the Beach Walk outdoor mall and cross one street to reach Fort DeRussy Beach. No resort fee includes beach chair service, but public beach access is free to everyone.

What is the water quality at Waikiki near the Embassy Suites?

Waikiki Beach carries a moderate historical bacteria risk. The Fort DeRussy area near the hotel is somewhat less affected by Ala Wai Canal outflow than the west end of Waikiki. In dry weather, conditions are generally acceptable. Always defer to the DOH Clean Water Branch for current advisories.

What suite amenities are included at no extra charge?

Embassy Suites includes a complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast every morning for all guests, plus a nightly manager’s reception with two free drinks and evening snacks. Every room is a two-room suite. These inclusions make it a strong value choice in expensive Waikiki.

How does Embassy Suites compare to the Sheraton or Outrigger Waikiki?

The Sheraton Waikiki and Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach are true beachfront hotels — sand is directly outside their beach-level entrances. Embassy Suites is a 3-5 minute walk from the water. However, Embassy Suites often wins on value: free breakfast, free evening reception, and two-room suite layouts at competitive rates. For beach-obsessed guests who want to roll out of bed onto the sand, the Outrigger or Sheraton may be worth the premium.
