Checking live advisories…
Updated May 29, 2026. This page now removes an Oʻahu activity link from a Big Island hotel page, adds a clearer Kukiʻo / Kohala Coast decision block, and treats the historical 1/5 rating as planning context rather than a current water test.

Four Seasons Hualalai Water-Quality Decision

Kukiʻo and the Kohala Coast have favorable dry-weather geography, but visitors should still check live advisories, recent rain, water color, and surf before ocean water contact.

If It Looks Brown, Don't Swim
Never enter the ocean when the water appears brown or murky. After heavy rain, wait at least 72 hours before swimming.

Historical Bacteria Risk
⚠ Historical rating — based on long-term data, not current conditions.
Low Risk 1 / 5

The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai sits on the Big Island's Kohala Coast — one of the driest and cleanest coastal environments in Hawaii. The resort fronts Kukiʻo Beach, a calm cove with open ocean exposure, no stream inputs, and minimal surrounding development beyond the luxury resort corridor.

The Kohala Coast receives far less rain than windward Hawaii Island. With no major rivers or streams discharging near the resort and modern resort infrastructure, this is a historically lower-runoff coastline. Treat that as useful context, then check current advisories and visible water clarity on the day you go.

Based on: DOH Kohala Coast monitoring, dry climate, no stream inputs, open ocean exposure

⚠️ The 72-Hour Rain Rule

The DOH recommends staying out for at least 72 hours after heavy rain. While rare on the Kohala Coast, when significant rain does occur, exercise standard caution.
