Beach access, water quality, and swimming guide
📍 Lewers Street, Waikiki, Oʻahu
The Surfjack Hotel is located on Lewers Street in central Waikiki, a short walk from the beach. The nearest beach sections (Fort DeRussy, central Waikiki) have a moderate bacteria risk of 2/5 on dry days. The main risk factor is the Ala Wai Canal at the western end of Waikiki.
As a boutique hotel without direct beachfront, the Surfjack is a great base for exploring Waikiki but guests should be aware of ocean water quality. On clear, sunny days the water at central Waikiki is generally fine. After heavy rain, the DOH recommends waiting 72 hours.
After heavy rain anywhere in Waikiki, wait at least 72 hours before ocean swimming. The Ala Wai Canal collects urban runoff from the whole watershed and can spike bacteria throughout the Waikiki shoreline. The Surfjack's own pool is the best option during these periods.
