Snorkeling conditions, live advisories, and seasonal surf risk

Three Tables Beach Conditions Today

Start with the live DOH status below. As of May 30, 2026, Three Tables is moving into its calmer summer snorkeling season, but the decision is still same-day: check North Shore surf, wind, visibility, brown water, and posted ocean-safety guidance before entering.

Quick read · Three Tables
Best use case: calm, clear summer mornings for confident snorkelers.
Skip it when: surf is up, the water looks brown/murky, or waves are washing over the reef shelf.
Current-condition check: use DOH advisories here, then check Hawaii Ocean Safety and posted signs.

North Shore Surf Can Change Fast
Three Tables is mainly a calm-summer snorkeling spot. Winter and shoulder-season North Shore swells can create surge and currents over the reef. Do not enter during rough, rising, or unclear conditions.
If It Looks Brown, Don't Swim
After heavy rain, wait at least 72 hours and until the water clears. Not every beach is monitored by DOH.

Low Risk 1 / 5

Three Tables Beach is named for three flat, table-shaped lava reef formations that protrude above the water during low tide. During calm summer conditions, these formations can create clearer, more sheltered snorkeling channels. The open-ocean setting gives the beach strong circulation.

There are no major stream mouths directly at Three Tables, but runoff, brown water, surf, and stirred-up visibility still matter. The primary decision is usually ocean conditions first, then water-quality advisories and visual clarity.

Based on: Rocky coastline, open-ocean flushing, no nearby stream runoff, seasonal access only

⚠️ The 72-Hour Rain Rule

Stay out for at least 72 hours after heavy rain. Even with strong ocean flushing, heavy rain can reduce visibility over the reef and can bring brown or murky water along the North Shore.
