About Kualoa Ranch
Kualoa Ranch is a 4,000-acre working cattle ranch and nature preserve on Oʻahu's windward coast, famous as a filming location for Jurassic Park, Lost, and dozens of other movies and TV shows. The dramatic Kaʻaʻawa Valley backdrop and the iconic Chinaman's Hat islet (Mōkoliʻi) offshore make this one of the most photographed spots on the island. The ranch sits right on Kamehameha Highway with Kahana Bay across the road and Kailua Beach a 20-minute drive south through the Koʻolau mountains' coastal foothills.

Across the highway
Heading north from Kualoa, Kaʻaʻawa Beach Park offers a narrow strip of sand backed by towering green cliffs. The beach sees few visitors compared to windward favorites, and the mountain scenery alone makes it worth a stop. The nearshore water is shallow with a mixed sand-and-rock bottom — bring water shoes.
Kailua Beach is a 2.5-mile stretch of powdery white sand that consistently ranks among the best beaches in the world. The turquoise water is popular for kayaking, stand-up paddling, and swimming, with the Mokulua Islands visible offshore. The drive from Kualoa takes about 20 minutes south along the coast. Bacteria testing shows moderate levels due to Enchanted Lake canal drainage at the south end.
Adjacent to Kailua Beach, Lanikai has some of the clearest water on Oʻahu. The narrow residential street limits parking (no public lot), so most visitors park at Kailua Beach and walk the short distance. The beach itself is narrow but stunning, with fine sand and views of the twin Mokulua Islands. Morning light here is particularly beautiful for photography.
Getting Around

- Parking: Kahana Bay has a free lot right off the highway — Kailua Beach lot fills by mid-morning on weekends ($3 non-resident fee)
- Tip: Combine your Kualoa Ranch activity with a beach stop at Kahana Bay right across the road — no extra driving needed
