What If It Rains?

Hawaiʻi DOH recommends avoiding affected waters for 48–72 hours after heavy rain has stopped and the beach has received full sunshine. This is a precaution, not a prediction of recovery. Elapsed time, dry weather and clear-looking water do not establish current water quality. Check current DOH advisories and posted signs; an active advisory remains in effect until DOH lifts it. Stay out of brown or murky water. Rainy-day alternatives: Kilauea Lighthouse, Kauaʻi Museum, Kauaʻi Coffee Estate, Spouting Horn, Waimea Canyon lookouts (often above the clouds).
