April Conditions at Turtle Bay Beach

April Advisory Risk Low

Turtle Bay historically rates at low bacteria levels during drier months. The resort setting and lack of major stream discharge keep bacteria levels low. The bay provides a cleaner alternative to some North Shore beaches.

🌧️ Rainfall & Runoff

April brings improving conditions to Turtle Bay with about 1.5 inches of rain. North swells taper off. The bay begins its transition to calmer summer conditions. Water quality is consistently good.

🌊 Ocean Conditions

Winter north swells affect Turtle Bay, though the bay's shape provides more protection than straight-facing North Shore beaches. Waves can still reach 6-10 feet on big days. Water temperature is 75-77°F. Currents increase with surf.

👥 Crowd Levels

Moderate. The shoulder season between spring break and summer offers a good balance of pleasant weather and manageable crowds.

📌 April Notes

•Humpback whale watching season is active. Whales are frequently visible from shore, especially on Maui's western and southern coasts. Peak whale activity is January through March.

If It Looks Brown, Don't Swim

Never enter the ocean when the water appears brown or murky, even if no advisory is posted. Hawaii is often slow to test beaches and update advisories — not every beach is monitored. After heavy rain, wait at least 72 hours and until the water clears before swimming.

The Hawaii Department of Health recommends staying out of the ocean for at least 72 hours after heavy rain. In april, rainfall is less frequent but individual storms can still produce contaminated runoff.
