August continues the peak dry season. Rainfall is minimal, trade winds are reliable, and Waikiki water quality is generally at its best. This is Honolulu's driest month with under 0.5 inches.
The south shore is calm in summer with small swells and gentle surf. Waikiki's reef break produces consistent, manageable waves ideal for learning to surf. Water temperature is around 79-80°F.

The Hawaii Department of Health recommends staying out of the ocean for at least 72 hours after heavy rain. In august, rainfall is less frequent but individual storms can still produce contaminated runoff.
