Beach access, lagoon water quality & which Ko Olina resort to choose
Both resorts share Ko Olina's man-made lagoon system. Water quality is generally excellent — calm, clear, and protected. After heavy rain, check DOH advisories before swimming. Ko Olina lagoon water quality details →
Ko Olina's four man-made lagoons are consistently ranked among the calmest swimming spots in Hawaii. The artificial lagoons have gradual sandy bottoms, protected openings to the ocean that allow tidal flushing, and no rip currents or significant waves.
Bacteria risk is generally low, but the lagoons can be affected by storm water runoff after heavy rain. The DOH monitors Ko Olina lagoons and has occasionally posted brown water advisories following major storms. Always wait 72 hours after heavy rain before swimming.
