Beaches Near Aiea

Aiea, Oʻahu — ranked by water quality and bacteria risk

Drive times and water quality risk levels for beaches near Aiea, Oʻahu. Risk ratings are based on long-term DOH bacteria testing data and geography. Always check current Oʻahu advisories before swimming — conditions change after rain.

About Aiea

Aiea is a residential community perched above Pearl Harbor on Oʻahu's south-central coast. It sits at the junction of the H-1 and H-3 freeways, making it a convenient base for reaching beaches in almost any direction. Pearlridge Center, one of Hawaii's largest shopping malls, is right in town.

Aiea itself does not have a swimmable beach — the Pearl Harbor shoreline is industrial and military — so residents and visitors head south toward Honolulu, west toward Ko Olina, or east over the H-3 freeway to the windward side. Drive times vary significantly with traffic, especially during weekday rush hours on the H-1. Aiea Heights Trail, starting from Keaiwa Heiau State Park above town, is a popular morning hike if you want to pair mountain and beach activities in one day.

Getting Around

Aiea sits right at the freeway interchange, so you have three directions: H-1 East to Honolulu (Ala Moana, Waikiki), H-1 West to Kapolei (Ko Olina), or H-3 East through the Koʻolau Mountains to Kailua. Midday and weekend drives are fastest. Rush-hour traffic on H-1 can double the travel time.

Best for families: Ko Olina Lagoons (calm and shallow). Best for a quick dip: Ala Moana Beach (closest option). Best beach overall: Kailua Beach (worth the 30-min drive). Best for nightlife nearby: Waikiki Beach.
