Beaches Near Waipio (Oʻahu)

Waipio, Oʻahu — ranked by water quality and bacteria risk

Drive times and water quality risk levels for beaches near Waipio, Oʻahu. Risk ratings are based on long-term DOH bacteria testing data and geography. Always check current Oʻahu advisories before swimming — conditions change after rain.

About Waipio (Waipiʻo Gentry)

Waipiʻo is a planned residential community in central Oʻahu between Pearl City and Waipahu. It is an inland suburb with no direct ocean access, but its location near the H-1 and H-2 freeways puts several very different beach experiences within 10-35 minutes.

Heading south or west takes you to the leeward coast (drier, sunnier), while heading east puts you on the Honolulu corridor. The H-3 freeway over the Koʻolau mountains is another option for reaching windward beaches like Kailua, though traffic can be a factor during commute hours. The Waipiʻo area itself has parks, walking trails along the cane-haul road, and local plate-lunch spots, but you will need to drive to reach any beach.

Nearby Beaches — Ranked by Proximity
Ewa Beach Moderate ●
The closest beach to Waipiʻo — a low-key neighborhood shoreline used mostly by local families. Shallow and rocky in places, so reef shoes help. No facilities besides a small parking area.

Four sheltered lagoons with calm, clear water and sandy bottoms. Public parking is free but limited — arrive before 9 AM on weekends. Restrooms and resort dining options within walking distance.

Honolulu's main beach park — a reef-protected lagoon with half a mile of sand, lifeguards, showers, and the adjacent Ala Moana shopping center. The most complete beach-day package on Oʻahu.

Kailua Beach Moderate ●
Consistently ranked as one of America's top beaches, with fine white sand and turquoise windward water. Kayak and paddleboard rentals available nearby. Worth the longer drive from Waipiʻo.
