Data-driven beach plan with water quality checks
| Duration | 10 day |
| Island | Oʻahu |
| Beaches | 10 beaches covered |
| Best For | All experience levels |
With 10 days, you can revisit Waikiki to explore its full two-mile stretch. Queen’s Surf Beach (east end) is quieter with decent snorkeling along the sea wall. The Kapahulu groin creates a sheltered pocket on its Diamond Head side. Morning sessions (7–9 AM) beat the afternoon trade wind chop.
The windward beaches are close enough to combine. Start at Lanikai early (no facilities, limited parking) then shift to Kailua Beach Park for lifeguards, restrooms, and kayak rentals. Kawainui Marsh drains into the bay — avoid the canal outlet at the south end after rain.
Volcanic-crater marine preserve. Reservation essential, slots fill days ahead. The right side has deeper water and bigger fish. Closed Tuesdays. Slower water circulation than open beaches — check the Hanauma Bay page after storms.
Four protected lagoons on the dry leeward coast. Conditions stay consistent regardless of wind or swell. Lagoon 2 offers the best snorkeling along its rock walls. Free parking lots at each lagoon. Resort restaurants nearby for lunch.
Ala Moana Beach Park has reef-protected flat water for morning laps, and Magic Island lagoon is toddler-friendly. The North Shore (45 min drive) is a full-day trip — summer brings calm swimming, winter brings massive surf. Free roadside parking at most North Shore beaches.
| Waikiki parking | Hotel garages $15–$35/day. Free side streets before 8 AM. TheBus is a $5.50 day pass for the full island |
| To Kailua/Lanikai | 30 min via Pali Hwy. Park at Kailua and walk to Lanikai (15 min) |
| Hanauma Bay | 20 min from Waikiki. $3 parking. Reservation required at hanaumabaystatepark.com |
| Ko Olina | 35 min via H-1 West. Free lots, arrive before 9 AM weekends |
| North Shore | 45–60 min via H-2. Weekend traffic adds time. Free roadside parking |
After heavy rain, wait at least 72 hours before entering the ocean. Check each beach’s water quality page for live advisory status.
